Massage Therapy
"The reason I became a massage therapist was a belief in simplistic healing--physically and spiritually. In a world of hurry up-do more-strive harder-buy more, how beautiful it is to be reminded for just an hour that all we need to do is just be and receive the love and energy which is always around us."
Massage therapy is one of the oldest treatments known to man. It can release painful muscle tension, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility and reduce mental and physical fatigue and is among the most effective means available to combat stress. New research has emerged regarding the healing power of touch. Benefits such as reducing stress hormones and boosting immune responses are placing a new light on massage therapy. Embracing these new findings has moved massage to the forefront of complementary health care techniques.
Becoming a massage therapist requires many hours of education which includes a variety of bodywork techniques and extensive anatomy and physiology. The innkeeper at The Old Mill House is a graduate of the Virginia Learning Institute in Falls Church, Virginia, and has met the Continuing Education requirements through classes on therapeutic reflexology, fibromyalgia and other modalities.
She has successfully met the professional standards established for recognition of a Professional member with active status in good standing of the American Massage Therapy Association. Professional liability insurance through American Casualty Company of Reading, Pennsylvania, administered by Healthcare Providers Service Organization protects her Hands of Halcyon practice.
The idea that touch can heal is an old one but in recent years, massage has regained respectability and now enjoys unprecedented popularity. Science is confirming what we knew in our hearts.

Massage Clients’ Comments
Heidi Jacobi
Graves Mill Virginia
“I had heard about the restorative power of massage and was willing to give it a try after a horseback riding accident that put me in the hospital, then in a wheelchair and then in a walker. I was recovering from a broken pelvis and my back was aching and I was sore all over. Also, I was afraid that any wrong move or touch would cause more pain. Well, once I was on the massage table and in the capable hands of Dreama Travis, all those fears vanished. I not only enjoyed the experience, I also credit the massage therapy with helping me to restore movement and well being. Dreama’s gentle touch and careful exploration of the various areas caused my body to let go of all that pain and tension. The quiet and beautiful setting of the room, the soothing music, the candles and most of all her caring attitude put my mind at ease and caused me to relax deeply. I know that her massages played a big part in my total recovery. And, yes, I am riding again. Gratefully, Heidi ”

Evy’s chronic back pain was exacerbated from spending long hours at the computer while writing her thesis at The University of Virginia. Frequent massages helped her accomplish her goal.
“I have had chronic back spasms in my shoulder area for years. It isn’t easy to find a massage therapist who will take the time to focus on specific trouble spots, particularly when deep tissue work is needed to relieve pain. Dreama not only was able to quickly locate my specific trigger points, but REALLY worked on those areas until they released. It wasn’t easy; it took patience and time, but --- Ahhhhh—she got the job done! The babbling brook, splendid mountain views and a far off moo of a cow sets the mood for some of the best massages I’ve ever gotten!!”
